I am ashamed to see that I have not blogged since 26th February - I used to type something most days, but I think the 'Time Fairy' has come into our home and stolen lots of time (or perhaps it is because I have been putting me and my health first, and not doing so much)!

For further details on what WOYWW means and how to join in, go to Julia's fab and bright yellow-spotty blog, Stamping Ground.

My photos this week show my new addiction - sewing!  I have had my machine for well over a year, but had hardly touched it - from fear of the unknown mainly.  I kept saying to myself that I would get the instruction book out and have a play - and finally this actually happened.  I found a bag kit that I had in my stash and so far have done about 50% of the handles.  Was forced to stop when I realised that I needed to be set up with the basic equipment - iron (£5 from Morrisons), ironing board (old one still down in our boiler room), rotary cutter/cutting mat/ruler (great prices and choices over at

I plan to get the handles finished later (I was going to say if I manage to get the planned housework done and also have papercrafting to do - but I need to be positive and say the handles WILL BE STITCHED!) and may even start on the main part of the bag.  All very simple, I know, but all good practice on using my machine and the many varied techniques involved.

I will do a separate post soon on the online course I have purchased - where I make a cushion and a SKIRT (yes, the tutor promises that I will have a skirt made by the end of the course).  Again, positive thinking required - and I hope that the family sewing skills (both my mum and younger sister are very skilled) are somewhere hidden in my genes.

Papercrafting has also been a big part of my recent life.  I made my 2nd parchment craft card, journaling continues, digital scrapbooking, using my new Ebosser and made some Mothers Day gifts for my mum.  I also have some foiling products to review for the Docrafts Creativity magazine.

The BIG CRAFT ROOM CLEAROUT continues - with sewing/cross stitching/yarn supplies to be sorted.

Hope that everyone is ok.  I have been reading a few blogs when I have a spare few minutes.

Happy WOYWW.

Ah yes - must attach photos!

Snazzy purple cutting mat and ruler - and fairly
tidy desk areas (look at the sunshine so early in the morning!)

My little sewing machine table.  The stripy things
are the partly-finished handles for my very first bag.

  1. Ah there you are - so glad you've been taking your own advice and putting your health first, idea yet. As for the sewing and the skirt...yep - you can and you will, and you'll be surprised..if you can sew in a straight line, you can make anything, and the more you do, the more you'll enjoy and want to do, for sure! Loving the stripey handles, how cheerful!

  2. Great job Ali conquering the unknown. I have a brand new machine I probably have had for 5 years that has never been out of the case....I am chicken. I may have to drag it out and see what it will do cause I honestly don't remember!!! Stay healthy and take care of your self first and foremost! Thanks for sharing and have a great week. Vickie #49

  3. Yay, woohoo...another fabric nut in WOYWW! so glad you're enjoying the course...I've learned so much from online tutors. There are always good ideas out there. Have fun with your machine!

  5. Hi Ali,

I know what you mean. I've been hit and miss in blogland lately too. Sometimes I just need a break; after working a full time job it gets to be a bit much. But here I am, not participating this week but visiting some desks!
Good luck with the sewing. I have a machine too and really want to give it a go..... perhaps you'll inspire me.

  6. enjoy your sewing an dyes i know how life can take over good to see you back and hope you can make it more often happy woyww Wednesday wishes and have a great week ahead Andrea #20

  8. Don't be jealous Alison just be inspired and GET A HARP. I got mine from here all done over the internet too and delivered! I WAS brought up in Wales from age 9yrs and there weren't any harps in my schooling at all else I'd have done it there too. Thanks for your visit today BJ#70

  9. Love your purple cutting mat, though your desk looks far to tidy for my liking LOL. I can't wait to see your finished bag with the stripy handles. I bet it will look fab.

  10. Hi Ali, thanks for visiting me. I managed to get half way round and then life got in the way so a bit late. You will be surprised once you get going with your sewing machine it just gets easier.
I taught textiles for years and the best thing to do is practice on something that is not too important until you get the feel of the machine. If you need any help just email me. Happy crafting, Angela #59
    to begin with

  12. WOW! You are very busy and ambitious! I could never sew. I've tried, but we just don't work well together! You will make the handles! Good Luck!

  13. I sew too. Well I have a sewing room but rarely use it. Not enough time and I so can relate to time issues! Love your sewing area and table! Thanks for visiting my WOYWW post. ~Sandy #82

  14. What a lovely creative space to have ;)

  15. I'll be looking forward to seeing your first bag - have fun with your new addiction! It's great to have your machine set up on a little table so it's always ready to go - I'm sure I'd used mine more if it was out rather than tucked away. Sorry for the late visit, just catching up after a frantic week! Happy late WOYWW and see you again soon :o) Annie c #54
