Link up for Pink - Get Them Checked

I found this challenge blog a couple of weeks ago. Link up for Pink's aim is to raise awareness of Breast Cancer every day of the year. Their current challenge (#3) ends on 5th July, so plenty of time to get your creations made and entered.

The theme is Pink (and it must be a Breast Cancer Awareness design).

There are freebies on LUFP and plenty of other images on the internet (Bugaboo Stamps have a good selection).

My card uses a Stella image from Bugaboo, coloured with Copics. I mounted this onto pink Core'Dination run through my Cuttlebug with a Spellbinder die, and this was in turn mounted onto a lovely pink heart design paper from my scrap drawer. The sentiment/message was a freebie from LUFP, mounted onto white card (with a pink Copic used to edge it) and a pink gem from stash.

Happy Bird-day!

I really needed something to brighten up the dull and windy day here in Pembrokeshire and knew that NitWits would be able to help.  I have some of their designs on a CD-Rom that came with 'Complete Cardmaking' magazine and chose a few bright and breezy images from their 'One Birdie Lane' collection.  I used the sketch from the CD Sunday Challenge blog to make this lovely card.

The base card is Kraft (what did I do before I discovered this?!).  The toppers, backing paper and sentiment are from the CD-Rom, and the ribbon/Candy are from stash.  I coloured the ribbon and Candy with a Copic marker pen.

Two Christmas Trees

Well, I am not even sure that I like this card - but it is what appeared after making lots of mess in my craft room (and tidying it up!).

I particularly had the latest theme at Crafty Hazelnut's Christmas Challenge blog #78, Lets Get Inky, in my mind - so started by getting my new IndigoBlu stamp set out (Here Comes Santa). I stamped two of the trees with my Brilliance inkpad, Twilight. I ran some pink and silver holographic card through my Cuttlebug with Spellbinder dies. The sentiment was also from the same stampset, and embossed with purple embossing powder (lucky that I had my little vacuum cleaner from the caravan in my craft room, as there was an 'incident' when opening the embossing powder!). I ran a glue pen around this and added some pink glitter for extra sparkle. Purple gems from stash were added to the tops of the trees.

WOYWW 160

It is a cloudy and non-summer like day in Pembrokeshire again (although we did have 2 days of sunshine) and TUESDAY.  I am typing this up whilst watching Real Housewives of New York (I love all the RH series - this is an old one, but interesting to see what happened before it all happened), so that when I get up early on Wednesday full of excitement to link up with Julia @ her Stamping Ground I may even get into a higher position on the list of crafty workspaces.

Having my extra table and more organised storage in my craft room is really helping me to create.  My new promise to myself to try and make at least one project each day is so far being kept to.  I have made some more Xmas cards, some general (any occasion) cards, a New Baby card and started on a set of 3 Twinchies for a UK Stampers swap.  This involved Debbi Moore's Metal Magic and stamping into it - which I hadn't done before.  My hubby even came to watch!  By the 3rd attempt I had worked out that I needed to get a thick layer and heat it for longer until it literally slides around on the card.  I really enjoy trying out new things.

My top tip for this week is to make your own Washi Tape.  Get some micro-porous tape from any pharmacy and then just decorate it to suit your project.  I used it on a distress-style card, so coloured it with a Copic and then stamped on with Distress Ink.  Much cheaper and very satisfying.   Take a look at the finished product - Rooster card.

This is my workspace -

Main workspace tidied, but 15 cards laid out (inserts/envelopes/cello bags) waiting for the labels to dry before being boxed up to go to St Lukes Hospice.  I ran out of the usual label sheets to go through the printer, so just printed onto plain paper and then cut out with fancy scissors - I actually preferred them like this.

Christmas Teddy No.2

This cute teddy is my 2nd card for the latest challenge at Winter Wonderland - Christmas Teddy.

The main image is from Debbi Moore's Stitch and Friends, Christmas Bears CD-Rom.  The backing paper and base card are from stash.  I added a bit of sparkle with a glitter marker pen.  No sentiment, as I thought that would crowd the card too much, and there will be a nice verse on the insert.

Christmas Teddy No.1

Via Feline Playful I found another Christmas Challenge blog and their theme this week is Christmas Teddy' - Winter Wonderland.

I already had a Xmas card finished with a teddy bear featuring on it, and made another one today (which is waiting for the glitter to dry).

This is the first entry -

The cute Forever Friends bear came from a paper pad that was free with a magazine last year.  The backing papers, sentiment and ribbon came from stash.

Beautiful Horse

This is another card for the monthly challenge at St Lukes - Our Little Furry Friends.

I used the sketch from Stamps & Fun = Creativity - Challenge #114.

I also enter it into - Digidoodles - #113, Farmyard or Zoo, and -

Shelly's Images - Anything Goes.

The main image is 'beautiful' and I cannot remember where I got it from!!  I think it is from a My Craft Studio CD-Rom.  I sprayed this with clear varnish and mounted it onto a piece of textured silver card.  The backing paper and sentiment tag are from the Peerless Designs Cuddle Upz Vol.2 Funny Farm CD- Rom.  Everything else is from stash.

Crafty Wish List

Does everyone else have a Crafty Wish List, or is it just me?! It started on the first page of a notebook I use for general notes, and is now on a 2nd page. I cross things off when I am lucky enough to get them, and keep adding as I see items in magazines or on the television. I dream of winning the Lottery, going to a big craft show like the one at the NEC and buying everything on the list - and then going home and finding space for it all !!

Is it part of my personality to want more stash all the time, or is this common in the crafty world - as I look at other people's craft spaces and see you have the same 'problem'. Is it a problem having hundreds of stamps, inkpads, pens, cardstock, scissors, glue ....... The only issue I see (except for the amount of money I spend) is what happens when I die. Sorry for being morbid so early on a Sunday morning, but my mother-in-law passed away just before Xmas and when we cleared her bungalow it struck me how temporary our time in this world is. I do make an effort to use everything in my craft room, or it gets sold on Ebay/donated to a charity shop.

Oh well, enough rambling and back to doing some actual crafting (I could spend all day blogging and sorting out my craft room - and have in fact done that on more than one occasion - I should be running a craft shop and getting paid to write about crafting!).

I have lots of new stash at the moment - the Michael Powell stamps I got as part of the Craft Stamper magazine subscription, lots of Craft Stamper back issues, the Spring and Summer limited edition Distress Inkpads, and various glue/cello bag/EZ mount foam. More on its way from Create & Craft. Will do a piccy and write up on Wednesday.

Rooster

I WON A GOLD MEDAL WITH THIS CARD @ SHELLY'S IMAGES.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is amazing what I can create early on a Saturday morning!  This is also an entry to several challenges, so had to use my brain a lot to sort all that out.

Firstly, the main image of the rooster is from Shelly's Images and is for the 'Terrifically Thrilling Thursday Challenge - Anything Goes'.  I love the images available in the shop, and bought a gorgeous Xmas one as well (which will feature on cards very soon).

Secondly, I used the sketch from the Critter Challenge Blog.

Thirdly, I also enter this into - Wags n Whiskers challenge - Use Kraft.

Fourthly, I also enter this into - Hotshot Craft - #4, Distress Ink.

Fifthly, I also enter this into - Digidoodles - #113, Farmyard or Zoo.

That is definitely enough for one card!!

Ali x

The base card is Kraft.  I then ran a piece of Core'dinations card through my Cuttlebug and sanded it.  The main image is stamped onto a piece of cream Kanban card, coloured with Copics and then inked with Distress Inks.  My masterpiece is the 'Washi Tape'.  Saw an article on using Microporous tape (available from any pharmacy) and decorating it yourself.  A roll 5m long only cost £1.99.  I coloured a strip with a Copic pen and then stamped (3 Birds stamps) with Distress Inks.  I imagine you could do this with all sorts of inks/pens/glitter etc - and will be playing around in the future.

More cards for St Lukes

I am loving this month's theme over at the St Lukes Charity Challenge - Our Little Furry Friends.

I have made 2 teddy bear cards early this morning and enter them both in this one post.  I am also working on a horse design, and hopefully that will be finished today.

The actual teddy bear images are from a set I purchased from www.craftsuprint.com.  They were combined with base cards, paper, tag and sticky ribbons from a wonderful teddy bear set I bought from QVC years ago.  The gold mirriboard is from my scraps drawer.  No sentiments on the front, so the purchaser can use them for any occasion.

The scanner didn't take brilliant piccies, sorry!

Charity Challenge - Our LIttle Furry Friends

I was introduced to the charity challenges for St Luke's Hospice last month - where you send them the card you entered, plus any others you can spare - and sent them a package of 11 cards.  This month's theme is Our Little Furry Friends' , so I will certainly be entering more than once!

My first card is partially made with bits from my scrap drawer.  The topper is from Cupcake Crafting - on one of the CD-Roms that come with Complete Cardmaking magazine.  The two gorgeous bright layers are from my scrap drawer, and the ribbon is from stash (one of the local craft shops has an amazing selection of ribbon, and I go in regularly to buy more colours/designs).

WOYWW 159

Now I could waffle on for hours about how wonderful Julia's Stamping Ground is and how it has transformed my mid-week from the day that our local paper is in the shops, or the day before I have to put out the rubbish, to a day where I get to be nosey and look around lots of other workspaces - but (and this is the longest sentence ever!) you can click on the link above to see for yourself.

Back to my workspace this week. It is wonderful having the extra 6' of table and even hubby came in my craft room yesterday and asked where I had put everything! Mainly, he noticed the lack of horrible old bookshelves in the corner, which used to have my collection of cookery books/magazines, maps, postcards and assorted 'stuff' gathering dust. These are now in storage boxes awaiting a new set of shelves (when they will be sorted into different magazine boxes and my books can finally be displayed again) - probably when we move over into the farmhouse next year. I have also had a good clear out and thrown out/donated to charity/sold on Ebay a lot of stash. More money for the Xmas stash I am ordering from Create & Craft today!!

If I could afford the extra proper craft storage I want (the lovely storage units with 'Really Useful' boxes slotted in - I could spend hours filling them), then the room would be truly finished in my eyes - but at least it is tidier and I have a proper sewing corner (my first small folding table, with sewing machine and fabric etc). The things that need mending are just sitting there looking at me - paper crafting is far more attractive at the moment, but I will get round to them eventually.

I subscribed to 'Craft Stamper' magazine this week (starting with September's issue), so I can get the free gift of the Michael Powell stamps - love them, so very excited when I saw they were offered. Also got some back issues - didn't have all the ones I wanted in stock, so looking on Ebay. If anyone has September 2009, March 2010 or April 2010 going spare (with the stamps), then get in touch.

Crafting-wise, I have been trying to complete one project per day - either a set of ATCs etc or a card. Doing well so far, and just about to start on a postcard for the UK Stamper swap, with a theme of 'In the Sky'. I have been doing one Xmas card per week, but going to try and do more from now on, as becoming aware of how little time we have before December.

Caravan-shopping - WE BOUGHT ONE. A fantastic new 2 berth in top spec, so even has central heating! More money than we originally planned to spend, but we had a good discount and it is a treat to ourselves after yet another stressful year. Hope to pick it up this weekend.

Happy WOYWW to everyone that I don't manage to visit.

Delicious Damask

This is the theme over at CD Sunday this week.  I had a lovely time going through the 'My Craft Studio Elite Quintessential Country Garden' CD-Roms and selecting some designs.  I chose a background (printed at a smaller size), a card shape (cut in half and used as a layer) and the bird topper.  I ran some Core'Dinations card through my Cuttlebug and then sanded it.  The bird was inked with TH Faded Jeans Distress Inkpad.  I didn't add a sentiment, as then I can personalise it inside with an insert.

(If anyone has not used the above CD-Rom set, then I definitely recommend getting it.  It is full of fabulous designs.)

Christmas 'Things with Wings'

Another Xmas card made - so satisfying to see the pile building.

This one is for Crafty Hazel's Christmas Challenge #77 and the theme is 'Things with Wings'.

The main robin topper and sentiment are from a fabulous set of Hunkydory diecut toppers that I bought from either QVC or Create & Craft last year.  The really cute robin backing paper is from a free set with a magazine - My Mind's Eye, 'Snowed In'.  The base card and brads are from stash.

CD Sunday - Beautiful Ballerina

I MIGHT JUST SCREAM!!  Spent ages typing this out and then it wouldn't publish.  Just what I need this early on a Saturday morning.

Only just managed to get the card completed for the latest CD Sunday challenge - the theme is Beautiful Ballerinas.  I wasn't aware of any ballet images on any of my CDs, so went shopping for a digi stamp, and found a really sweet one at www.scrapbookingmad.com (not just for scrapbooking - lots of cardmaking images as well).

The backing papers are from Nigel May's A-Mazing; All Kinds of Everything and Debbi Moore's All Girls are Princesses!

I used the sketch from Willow Sketchie Challenge 14 June.

WOYWW 158

Firstly, for those who do not know what WOYWW is, please go to Julia's Stamping Ground for more details and to link a picture of your workspace on this almost sunny Wednesday.

Secondly, I am back on the slow internet, so it has taken me 2 attempts to get this finished and published, and I will not be able to comment on many other blogs - SORRY!!

Thirdly - thank you to those who have sent me wonderful ATCs to celebrate the 3rd birthday of WOYWW.  I will do another post to show piccies and thank you properly.

I wanted to show lots of photos of my big craft room tidy-up, but it will just have to be a few.  My big 6' table is in place, and I can't imagine how I managed without it.  Haven't crafted much this week - just the essential birthday cards.  New caravan shopping has taken over.  Three days of driving around looking at endless white (or even silver!) plastic boxes on wheels exhausted us both, and I was itching to get in my craft room and continue sorting out.  Don't get me wrong, I love caravans and I think we have chosen the model we want.  Managed to locate one about 3 hours drive away, and we may go up on Friday when it is due to rain (so farmer hubby is not busy in the fields) and spend a lot of money.  Hubby is riding in a 24 hour mountain biking event near Plymouth in July, so we need a new caravan by then (the old one is damp in places and may not be safe to tow for such a long journey).  More fun than it sounds - we all camp in a group, and it is an amazing atmosphere, especially at night when the bikes/riders have big lights on and you can see them riding around the course.

I will have to do more blog posts to show more photos, especially when the room is finished (I need to get proper storage to really sort everything out).

This is the 6' table folded up, as it arrives with the courier.  These are great tables, and so useful for any purpose.  Very strong, but light enough for me to move it around.  Less than £50.

And this is the mess created by moving everything into one corner of the room to get the tables into place!  (BTW - the big white ball is my gym ball - I sit on it when my hips are particularly sore.)

Hurrah - the tables in place, ready to be filled with crafty goodies and tools.

CD Sunday - Gorgeous Green

Green - my favourite colour of the moment (but slowly sliding towards orange!), and one of my favourite ways of crafting, using CD-Roms or other digital forms.  The latest challenge on CD Sunday was a definite for me.

I created a card for my Dad for Fathers Day (don't forget - it is 17th June).  The main image and sentiment came from one of the CD-Roms that you get with Complete Cardmaking magazine.  It is part of a Dreamees collection.  The 'Relax' sentiment was created with my Digital Designer software and the Papermania Collection.  Everything else is from stash.

WOYWW 157

WOYWW or 'What is on your workdesk Wednesday' is the baby of Julia and her fab blog, the Stamping Ground.  We all get together and link a blog post which shows a photo and a few (or more) words about our crafty working spaces and what we have been doing through the week.  The 3rd birthday was celebrated last week and hundreds of crafters from all around the globe join in.  Come and join us; you won't regret it.

Firstly, an apology from me - to the ladies who are waiting for an ATC from me (we made these little pieces of art to celebrate the 3rd birthday last week).  I had them made by Saturday, but then my health failed me and I was not able to get out to the post office.  The 4-day holiday weekend in the UK meant that I have had to wait until today to post them, but hopefully they will reach the girls in the UK tomorrow (and as soon as possible for the United States).

I still cannot show my craft room, as my big sort-out to fit in my new table is not much more advanced.  I will be getting on with it this week (as more rain is forecast here), so next week you can all admire my amazing extra 6' of crafting space!

Here is a photo of the ATCs I made - some doodling with black and pink pens.

I hope everyone is well and happy.  Happy WOYWW to all.

CHNC # 75 - A Right Royal Purple

After missing the deadline for the challenge last week, I was determined to enter this week, especially as purple is my official favourite colour.  In fact, I may even enter more than one card, as have lots of purple stash sorted out on my desk.

Go over to Hazel's Christmas Challenge blog - Crafty Hazelnuts Christmas Challenge.  It is well worth joining in now, as I have 4 cards ready made (with inserts, envelopes and in plastic bags - yes, I am trying to get more organised), and that takes a lot of stress away from December itself.

This is a card using lots of bits and pieces.  The main image and the purple backing paper are from a Forever Friends pad that I got with a goody bag a few years ago.  There is some rainbow shimmer card and a gorgeous piece of Kanban purple cardstock.  The main card is also Kanban (the best purchase I ever made - a big bumper box of card and paper).  The sentiment is from a Kanban Christmas set - purchased from QVC, I think, last year.

Random Post No. 2 - WiBE, faster internet for those in remote areas

Just a quick post to say that we finally have quicker internet at home, and I can waste lots of time looking at stuff on YouTube etc!  Wow, there are loads of videos of craft rooms - and I can watch them all day, rather than organising my own craft room.

Our amazing internet device is called a WiBE - and it enables us to connect upto 3G with just a normal mobile broadband simcard.  Further details are at http://www.wibebroadbandrouter.com/

I will be able to join in more with challenges and also get around more workspaces on a Wednesday.

Wish we had found this device sooner.  If anyone else is living in a remote area without 'fibre broadband' (ie the usual way through your phone line), then contact Richard and he will help you out.

ps  This is a random photo!!   My wonderful Exmoor Pony, Frayne, waiting patiently (tied to a hedge!) whilst I closed a difficult gate on a track on our farm.  Sunshine - and only last week.
