WOYWW 178

Firstly, I have been shocked at the images on the news from the US.  I hope that everyone is safe and coping with any damage/power loss.  We are having horrible weather this morning in Wales (strong winds and rain), but I had to tell myself that it is not a hurricance or even a storm and we are very lucky not to have those extremes.

Secondly, for those who do not know what WOYWW is - well it stands for What is on Your Workdesk Wednesday and it brings crafters from all over the world together mid-week, to show off our workspaces and what we have been up to.  It is all organised by Julia on her blog, Stamping Ground.  Join in with the fun and become addicted like the rest of us!

I have done some crafting this week, but definitely not enough.  After doing so well and starting to make Xmas cards early this year, I haven't made any for several weeks - and I keep looking at my Xmas crafty box with longing as I move it around the room whilst continuing with my big clear out.  I had my monthly swaps to get finished - a postcard, twinchies and ATCs (all for UK Stampers) - and I need to be organised and get next month's done early, as I will be having more dental treatment in 3 weeks time, and I know that then I will be out of action for a while.  I finally got 'experimental' and messy with my crafting.  Acrylic paints and filler were used for the first time, and I loved it.

Happy WOYWW to all those that I do not get to visit.

Ali x

You can see the results of my 'messy' crafting on the right - 3 ATCs.
The big pile in the middle is what I brought home after raiding our 2 local craft shops.
A 12x12 Halloween paper, ribbons, wood shapes, pearl gems - and I also
bought another bottle of acrylic paint.
The rest is the usual stuff that lives on my desk - with the remainder
of the tube of filler (wrapped in plastic bags to keep it soft) and the
stamp I created with my stamp making machine.

  1. First, I wanted to say I saw your comment on Julia's post about wanting a tablet and thought I would mention the Kindle Fire(the new one for $159-179). My son got one a month or so ago, as a friend had pre-ordered it for him, and at about the same time my mom got an Ipad. Well, long story short, his does almost as much as hers and was Waaaaay cheaper. It's got lots of apps, free and cheap($0.99)and goes online, reads books, plays music(with really decent sound, too) and lots of other stuff. Just thought I would throw that out there, in case you hadn't considered it. :) On to your desk...niiiice. ;) That is a pretty sweet mess you have yourself there. Do you have a TC stampmaking machine? If so, is it totally worth the investment? Or do you have another brand...well, obviously I'm curious, huh? lol It's just that I've thought about getting one and wondered if they were worth the investment. Have a great WOYWW and I hope to see you!

    1. Hi, yes, I am considering the Kindle tablet - they are a great price and good reviews that I have read so far. My hubby likes the new MS one - the Surface - but it is expensive. Stampmaking machine - it is the TC one. Saw it demonstrated on tv and had to have one! Only used it once so far (see my WOYWW post last week), but it was easy to use and comes with a great selection of designs, before I get round to using the software that comes with it, so you can use any photo or image. 2. Thanks for your comment Ali - hope you get around to Art Journaling soon. The little A6 ones are SO much earier to get started with I am finding. My big one ended up as a tag journal (see previous posts on my blog) and my inbetween one just sits on my desk! For "filler" I am assuming an alternative for Texture Paste - what a good idea. Really need to get mine out and have a go too. BJ#35

  3. Busy desk this week. My Christmas stuff is still on the shelf at the back of the wardrobe. Have gone from making all my C cards to making a few for close family only - and I have loads of C stamps.
Have looked at the Kindle Fire but think I need 3G connection which it doesn't have - maybe Father Christmas will bring one?

  6. Kindle. Am thinking of buying my son one for his birthday. Seems to do so much that my expensive iPad does and he would only want it for books and music with the occasional browse.
Look forward to seeing what you do with your Halloween ribbon - are you as behind as me at making something for tonight?
Thanks for visiting me last week when I was AWOL - Hugs, Neet 23 xx

  8. I'm sat reading my WOYWW blogs on my sick bed this week but have my mask on so you don't catch anything. I'm enjoying reading what everyone is up to this week [it's better than reading magazines :-) ]. I'm leaving a copied comment so you know I've called by because my hands are too weak and shaky to keep typing out my comments this week.
    Big hugs,

  12. I understand the panic that sets in around now when you realise how many Christmas cards you still have to make. I have quite a few done already but still need a lot more! I hope you don't all get blown away in windy Wales. Our storms have abated though we are still getting way more rain that usual for this month. but today is bright and sunny, so I am in the mood to get working.
    have a good week.

  16. Your desk looks very organized to me. And Christmas cards...no worries, send a letter and scan the favorite card you've made and make it part of the letter. Works for me! Include a promise for the next year... :-) Have a great week. I hope your weather improves.

  17. Argh....I think my computer is celebrating Halloween...it's not behaving! I just tried sending a comment and my computer said...nope, don't think so! Your desk looks very organized...and yes, messy is the name of my craft room. As for Christmas cards....just make one, scan it and use it as the logo for your Christmas letter! Include a promise for next year! Sounds like you are very busy! I hope your weather is improving.

  18. You'll have to get a shimmy on if you want to make something for Samhain girl!! Or are they supplies for next year? I've never got into messy crafting, can't get my brain around it! But either you've cleaned up or you're a non-messy messy crafter!!

  22. Not sure where you are in Wales, but usually if there is lots of rain over there, it ends up with us in a couple of days, either as rain or as flood water coming down the Severn.Looks as though your desk is a really interesting place this week. Have fun with all those bits and pieces. xx Maggie #42

  25. Thanks for your lovely comment Ali. Pity about the weather, but then ours is pretty strange. Yesterday was all sunshine and 30C and today it's blowing like mad and we had 12 mm rain from about 2AM to 9AM. Temp is about 14C. Crazy! We often mention to visitors that if they don't like our weather, stick around for an hour!
Do like your shopping treasure trove, and am very interested in your stamp-making. I've looked up such machines and wonder whether they work well and consistently. Maybe when you have a moment, just put a few notes in a post about it?
    Cheers now,
    Ros. #102.

  27. Hi Ali - oooer, you have a stamp making machine? What fun - and I love that vibrant orange ribbon on your desk!

I think Jo used to work for the BBC so perhaps she's used to talking on the radio etc.? Good fun though! Di xx

  29. I love that it's all going o your desk, but it's all looking under control to me! There's never a good time to have a clear out, but the onward good feeling is so worth it! Never a good time to have dental treatment either, but at least you know you'll need down time afterwards and plan a little bit.
